Amazon's jobs website has unveiled a promising revelation: the company is actively preparing to introduce cutting-edge AI search capabilities to revolutionize its online web store.
Amazon is confidently gearing up to spearhead the development and implementation of a cutting-edge "search" functionality for its renowned online web store, equipped with a revolutionary ChatGPT-like interface. A recent discovery of a pair of job postings by Bloomberg sheds light on Amazon's unequivocal commitment to reinventing its time-honored search feature. Rest assured, Amazon is poised to revolutionize the way customers search for and discover products on its platform.
In the job listing for a "Sr Technical Program Manager," the company confidently asserts:
“We are working on a new AI-first initiative to re-architect and reinvent the way we do search through the use of extremely large scale next-generation deep learning techniques.”
The pay for this position, which demands a minimum of seven years of hands-on experience collaborating with engineering teams, is an impressive range of $119,000 to $231,400 per year, depending on the applicant's location.
In another enticing job listing, specifically for the role of "Sr SDE, Machine Learning (ML), Amazon Search," the compensation becomes even more appealing, offering a generous annual salary between $134,500 and $261,500. What sets this opportunity apart is the ambitious nature of the initiative, which is described as a once-in-a-generation transformation for Search. Amazon is determined to promptly deliver exceptional value to its customers.
“We are reimagining Amazon Search with an interactive conversational experience that helps you find answers to product questions, perform product comparisons, receive personalized product suggestions, and so much more, to easily find the perfect product for your needs.”
The company's postings unmistakably indicate its intention to implement significant changes at a higher level in the functionality of its search feature.
It is worth noting that Amazon recently introduced its own cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) foundational models called "Bedrock." Bedrock is a revolutionary "serverless" AI service that empowers customers to create their own models similar to ChatGPT.
Alongside Bedrock, Amazon also announced its "Titan" chatbot service. Bratin Saha, the company's vice president, informed reporters that Amazon has been utilizing a finely tuned version of Titan to enhance search result visibility on its homepage. It remains unclear whether this is connected to the recent job postings. Despite a request for additional information, Amazon has not yet responded.
The timing of these announcements comes as no surprise, considering the swift progress witnessed in the generative AI field since the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT service in March.
The aggressive expansion in this domain appears to be yielding favorable results thus far. Generative AI technology has demonstrated its impact across a wide range of sectors. Notable examples include journalism, where various media outlets have experimented with AI-generated reporting, as well as cryptocurrency and blockchain, where virtually every aspect of development, trading, and community interaction has been influenced by generative AI.
