Crypto employment: Binance, Circle recruit top talent amidst SEC crackdown
June 11, 2023 · By Blockchain Headhunter
In a bold move, former OKX brand and partnerships head Rachel Conlan has joined Binance, despite the ongoing SEC lawsuit against the crypto exchange and the significant outflow of over $2 billion in assets within the past week. As Binance's new vice president of global marketing, Conlan faces a challenging task ahead.
Binance has expressed confidence in Conlan's abilities, stating that she will be responsible for managing regional and global marketing teams to reinforce and expand Binance's position as a trusted industry leader in the crypto space. Establishing trust will be a top priority for Conlan and her team, especially in light of the SEC's revelation of internal communications in their 136-page lawsuit, which included damning statements from a Binance chief compliance officer.
Beyond navigating the repercussions of regulatory scrutiny, Conlan will also oversee the growth of Binance's collaborations with prominent brands and celebrities, such as Cristiano Ronaldo and The Weeknd. She will report directly to Binance's co-founder and chief marketing officer, Yi He, who expressed confidence in Conlan's ability to drive the industry forward and introduce more people to blockchain, while familiarizing them with Binance.
With her extensive experience, Rachel Conlan is poised to make a significant impact in the industry, collectively building upon the nascent stages of this burgeoning field.
Circle and Kraken make big hires this week
USDC issuer Circle has made a significant addition to its team by bringing on board Heath Tarbert as the chief legal officer and head of corporate affairs. Tarbert's appointment is particularly noteworthy given his extensive background in the US government, which holds great relevance in the current climate of increased regulatory scrutiny on the cryptocurrency industry.
Tarbert's previous role as chair of the CFTC, where he served from July 2019 to January 2021, is highly applicable to his new position. Additionally, he held influential positions within the US Treasury and has worked closely with prominent politicians and judges. Notably, Tarbert served as former President George W. Bush's associate counsel and worked as a law clerk to Associate Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire expressed confidence in Tarbert's abilities and emphasized the value he brings to the company's growth strategy. Allaire believes that Tarbert's unique perspective, legal expertise, and extensive experience in global regulations will be instrumental in advancing the utility and value of USDC on a global scale.
Despite recent regulatory actions taken by the SEC, Circle remains undeterred in its plans to go public, as reported by Blockworks.
In a separate development, Kraken, another prominent crypto exchange, has appointed Vishnu Patankar as its chief technology officer. Patankar, a seasoned tech veteran, most recently served as the chief technology officer at StockX since 2020. His technology leadership and executive experience date back to 1998 when he joined Intel as a component design engineer. He then spent six years at Microsoft before transitioning to Amazon, where he held various roles over a decade.
Kraken CEO David Ripley, who assumed leadership in late April this year, praised Patankar's expertise and ability to drive technological advancements at the exchange. Ripley highlighted Patankar's track record of building and leading large, globally distributed engineering teams at innovative companies.
Both Circle and Kraken are reinforcing their teams with top talent, signaling their commitment to navigating regulatory challenges and driving technological innovation in the cryptocurrency industry.
