FBI Issues Alert Regarding Deceptive Crypto Job Listings

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States has issued a warning to citizens regarding a new fraudulent cryptocurrency job advertisement circulating in various channels.

On May 22, the FBI released an advisory urging both U.S. residents and individuals residing or traveling abroad to remain vigilant against deceptive job postings associated with labor trafficking.

According to the advertisement, unsuspecting individuals have been subjected to unlawful confinement, intimidation, and coerced into participating in fraudulent international cryptocurrency investment schemes.

The warning further explains that victims, primarily located in Asia, are enticed with a wide array of employment prospects, such as technical support, call center customer service, and beauty salon technicians. However, upon reaching their destination country, job applicants are forced into engaging in cryptocurrency investment scams against their will.

To address this issue, the FBI has requested victims of these schemes to come forward and report such activities through an online portal provided by the bureau.

In recent years, the FBI has been actively involved in numerous cases related to cryptocurrency scams and other crypto-related incidents.

In a recent joint operation on May 1, the FBI's Detroit field office and the National Police of Ukraine collaborated to carry out authorized activities that resulted in the seizure and closure of nine digital currency exchange services. These domains were reportedly facilitating cybercriminals and included websites such as 24xbtc.com, 100btc.pro, pridechange.com, trust-exchange.org, and bitcoin24.exchange, among others.

On April 30, CertiK, a firm specializing in crypto security and auditing, released a report outlining various crypto exploits and scams that occurred in April, revealing a staggering loss of $103.7 million. This figure represented half of the total cryptocurrency losses incurred throughout 2023.

During the same period, the prominent YouTube channel known as DidYouKnowGaming fell victim to an ongoing hacking incident that promoted fraudulent XRP cryptocurrency scams.
