The IRS is making strategic moves to enhance its proficiency in the realm of cryptocurrencies by recruiting two seasoned digital-asset executives, both bringing invaluable experience to the table.
Sulolit “Raj” Mukherjee, renowned for his tenure as the global head of tax at ConsenSys and his previous role at Binance.US, will lend his expertise to the IRS as an adviser. Joining him is Seth Wilks, recently holding the position of vice president of government relations and success at TaxBit, a prominent crypto tax software firm. Together, they will spearhead the agency’s endeavors in crypto compliance and enforcement, reinforcing its capabilities.
In response to the escalating need for regulatory clarity in the crypto sphere, the IRS is diligently drafting final regulations mandating comprehensive reporting by crypto brokers, aligning with the government's oversight objectives. Simultaneously, the IRS is tackling a surge in financial crime cases associated with crypto tax evasion, underscoring the urgency of bolstering its crypto-related capabilities.
Highlighting the significance of this collaboration, IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel emphasized the critical role of integrating private sector expertise into the agency's operations. This strategic partnership aims to fortify the IRS's approach to digital assets, ensuring alignment with regulatory frameworks while fostering an environment conducive to compliance for all stakeholders.
