The wallet manufacturer had approximately 734 employees when the article was published, indicating that approximately 88 individuals might have been affected by job losses.
Pascal Gauthier, the CEO and chairman of the prominent hardware crypto wallet manufacturer, Ledger, has confidently revealed a strategic decision to optimize the company's operations. In a blog post dated October 5th, he announced a 12% reduction in the workforce, a move made to ensure the long-term resilience of the business.
Gauthier pointed to the challenges presented by the 2022 bear market and the unfortunate collapses of firms like FTX and Voyager Digital as key factors in this decision. It's noteworthy that Ledger, at the time of this announcement, boasted approximately 734 employees based on data from LinkedIn. This suggests that around 88 positions have been adjusted to align with Ledger's evolving business strategy.
In Gauthier's words, "Macroeconomic headwinds are limiting our ability to generate revenue, and in response to the current market conditions and business realities, we must reduce roles across the global business." With determination and pragmatism, he added, "Sadly, this means we are making the difficult decision to reduce 12% of the roles at Ledger."
It's worth noting that this announcement comes approximately seven months after Ledger successfully raised over $109 million in a funding round, granting the company a valuation of $1.4 billion. Furthermore, in August, Ledger demonstrated adaptability by integrating its Live software with PayPal, allowing verified U.S. residents to purchase cryptocurrencies through the payment app.
In the face of an uncertain market and evolving U.S. regulatory dynamics, numerous crypto companies have similarly adjusted their staffing. For instance, Binance.US underwent leadership changes, with CEO Brian Shroder stepping down, and approximately 100 employees were restructured. Nansen, Coinbase, Huobi, and Crypto.com have also signaled their intention to make strategic workforce adjustments in 2023. Ledger's proactive approach reflects its commitment to adaptability and long-term success in the ever-changing crypto landscape.
